About This Working Group
This TWG oversees reforms that strengthen transparency, accountability, and community participation in Malawi’s extractives and natural resource sectors. By improving legal frameworks and ensuring communities benefit from mining activities, the TWG supports sustainable resource management and long-term national development.
Issues
- Limited transparency and accountability in mineral revenue management
- Insufficient community participation in mining agreements and benefits
- Weak monitoring and disclosure of Community Development Agreement (CDA) projects.
Commitments
- Establishment of a Sovereign Wealth Fund
- Adoption of Community Development Agreements in the mining sector
